sightings of spring

Santa Barbara is bursting with springtime. Mockingbirds trill and doves coo, and the lizards are back sunning themselves on the rock wall. Yesterday, a gorgeous schooner showed up in the harbor; and even the cars on the street are reflecting the colors of spring.

Lower State Street stirs with cotton-clad locals; and music and laughter peals from inside restaurants and clubs. Today is alive with the promise of summer -- and harmony reigns in this city by the sea.

  1. Hi Anitra-

I love the picture of the ocean. It's such a beautiful shade of blue, almost like sapphires. Spring is in full swing alright. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, flowers are in bloom, and my allergies are flaring up. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad.

    Regards,

    Joseph

  3. Yes, the water is such gorgeous shade of blue!! I can feel the warmth from the sun just looking at that beautiful photo, as I sit here in dreary, gray, wet Seattle. You are definitely making me homesick, Anitra!!

  4. Awww, it's not fair is it? Though, if we have another summer of fog, things will balance out. It sounds like you either live on the West Coast, or used to.

So glad the ocean reached you. Always lovely to hear from you Mark, ~ Aneet

    Hi Anitra,

Yes, finally Spring is in the air! For me, it's baseball. At 50, I still play in a hardball baseball league. I dive for line-drives in right field, etc. Although my Mets aren't doing so well, I still love going to Citi Field to watch.

Great picture of the ocean! Love those old time cars also.

I hope the Spring will go easy on your allergies!

Best of health to you always...........Jon

  6. Jonathan,

Delightful descriptions of you playing baseball in the night field. It's great that you do that.

Glad you like the photos. Those old cars are fun -- especially when they're turquoise.

    Happy springtime, Jonathan, ~ Aneet

  7. Anitra,

While we're on the subject of baseball,I was wondering what your favorite number would be for a baseball uniform?

  8. I'm originally from the East Coast (Maine), but relocated to Los Angeles in '85. Been in the Seattle area for the past 10 years. Hate the weather here and hope one of these days to be back in So CA. To me that's home.

  9. Mark,

Thank you for giving me such a well-rounded picture. Your not the first transplanted Southern Californian I've heard express this about the Seattle weather.

And as far as returning to So. Cal., where there's a will, there's a way. Sending fond wishes, ~ Aneet

  10. To Jonathan,

I haven't quite known what to say about a #. I know certain baseball uniform #s are famous, and I've heard, even retired, but I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. I guess if I just picked a # out of the sky, it would be 8. What is your fave--and why?

  11. Aneet,

The number I wear on my jersey is #24. This is for my idol Willie Mays. My alternate number is 6. That was my fathers favorite number because he was born in apartment #6. Interesting that you picked #8. That's my mothers favorite number.

The reason why I asked you that question was because I'm heading up to Cooperstown, N.Y. next week for a baseball tournament. (Cooperstown is where the Baseball Hall of Fame is) I was looking to wear a different number for this event and thought about asking you for a number that you like. I will wear #8 for the tournament. Is 8 your favorite number? I understand it's lucky!

    Thank You Aneet,.......Jonathan

  12. Yes, I like 8. It's also a symbol of infinity and used as a symbol of good health as well. Numbers are quite fascinating. It can be fun seeing the way they line up. This year, 2011, has produced some interesting dates.

As for baseball, I can see where baseball -- arriving in spring -- would carry with it a flurry of stimulation and joyful excitement. I found it so interesting to know that you wear Willie Mays' uniform #24 and that you'll be playing in the city of the Baseball Hall of Fame. It's neat that you can select any number you choose. It would be an honor to have you wear a number 8. whatever you choose, I wish you luck and a great time. ~ Aneet

  13. Hi Anitra-Funny you should mention the number 8-it is, apparently, lucky to the Chinese.
I worked with a funny librarian this summer and we used to have an 8-point pound precisely because 8 is indeed lucky.
